Koch network spending millions to stop GOP health care bill

Written by  Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — The conservative Koch network is promising to spend millions of dollars to defeat the health care overhaul backed by President Donald Trump and top House Republicans.

The network's leading organizations, Americans for Prosperity and Freedom Partners, announced late Wednesday the creation of a special fund to support House members who vote against the health care bill.

The announcement, which comes on the eve of the House vote, marks the influential conservative network's most aggressive move against the health care proposal, which is under attack from the right and the left.

"The bill as it stands today is Obamacare 2.0," said James Davis, executive vice president of Freedom Partners, in a statement announcing the new fund. He added, "We will stand with lawmakers who keep their promise and oppose this legislation — and work toward a solution that reduces costs and provides Americans with the relief they need and deserve."

The organizations backed by billionaire industrialists Charles and David Koch declared their formal opposition to the GOP health care proposal Monday.

Like other conservatives, they decried the legislation as a new entitlement program that doesn't go far enough in repealing President Barack Obama's health care law. Moderate Republicans, meanwhile, are concerned by projections of 24 million Americans losing coverage in a decade and higher out-of-pocket costs for many low-income and older people.

Repeal completely, let the dummycrats compromise on something that is acceptable to both parties , 70 + % did not want the ACA in the first place but the democrats shoved it thru even against the wishes of the people they represented , there was not a single republican vote for it !

I agree with Darvin Sparks to a point. Yes, something must be done to get away from Obamacare, but this bill as it is written is not the right way to go. Paul Ryan is not on our side and never has been. Remember him from the election period and how he acted. He still wants to change medicare to a voucher system and is favor of the age tax. And that is not acceptable. I paid 1.65% of my wages all my working life to medicare. It is not an entitlement,it is money I have paid out for coverage in my senior years just as I did 6.4% to social security. And to be taxed extra because I am over 50 is not acceptable either.
People need to understand just because the republicans came up with this bill, and I support Pres. Trump, does not mean that it is good for us. It needs to be taken back to drawing board and these issues removed before I will ever ask my Representative to support it, which I have called and asked to vote against it until those issues have been removed from it.

Giving Obama Crap Care a lifeline is treason. Millions of middle class Americans have been financially and physically punished by the Unaffordable Care Act. Sean Hannity could craft a better replacement. The Rino's love Big Govt control of the little people. It's the Globalists Agenda 21 & 30 plan from Hell.

The Koch network is wise enough to realize that this RinoCare is not worth a warm spit! It should be pulled from consideration. Allow Obamacare to continue toward ruin & once it has taken it's last breath, immediately introduce a true Conservative, free marketplace replacement with all the bells & whistles.

It's illegal in the first place. Passed as a tax, defended in court as not a tax. Nobody read it. Weren't even allowed to read it. It gives massive regulatory powers to a few bureaucrats. You cannot leave a word of it standing. Get rid of it and leave a 'sunset clause' to allow insurance companies to 'offer it' through the next year with. If the leftist lunatic alinsky radicals want to gripe--- make them buy it. In fact make it a firing squad offense that they want it, but are not covered by an exchange policy be shot on site.. Let them complain. The rest of us will buy what we want, and save medicaid. Obama owes medicare 900 $ Billion by the way. File a civil suit against the democrat party. They stole the money.

The bill is a disaster. Repeal and let market replace. Instead legislate relief and removal of competitive barriers and all tax on medical with no income limits. Develop a voucher system later for very poor and very sick. Ask each insurance company to provide a policy for preexisting conditions at market rates. Alow people to aggregate for competitive discounts. Then get out of the way.

Please understand how difficult it is to unwind Obamacare. It was intentionally made so by both the method used to pass it initially, known as "reconciliation", plus the immensity of the 20,000+ page bill. It's so complicated that undoing it will be a process not a simple one-stroke action. If the republicans had the 60 votes needed in the senate to overcome filibuster then it would be much simpler to do in one comprehensive "repeal & replace" bill but they don't have 60 votes due to complete lack of any democratic support - no matter what bill they present. The Dems desperately want Obamacare to remain as it moves us mightily toward single payer and socialism, not to mention creating an enormous federal bureaucracy that will ultimately be unionized too. So please do not fall into the trap of allowing "perfect" to be the enemy of "good" - the current bill isn't perfect by any means but it is a good step in the right direction and just about all that can be passed in the senate with only 51 votes there. I trust that Tom Price, who was my congressional representative, will then do everything possible to facilitate the dismantling of Obamacare - it's the main reason he went to Washington in the first place!

I don't like this. It implies votes are being bought. I would like representatives to vote for the right reason, and not because they will get money from a wealthy donor.

I want to go back to old health care. Just give help to those with pre-existing conditions, medicare, and medicaid. Let us buy the old policies that we don't have to pay out thousands before we ever get to use it. Like Rand Paul said, this is obamacare part 2! Personally, I like it when I go to dr, to just pay $20 a call and the insurance pays the rest, and we have to pay a co pay on hospital stays. I heard someone say they had to pay $14000 before they were able to use it. Most people in a year's time doesn't have nearly that much a year.

Totally agree with you that this is Obummercare part 21. It has been put together too quickly and without much thought towards seniors. Who can pay a $6,500+ deductible? Those who have pre-existing conditions that have had insurance before have already paid into the system and should have continued coverage. I worked for 40 years and always had insurance that the company paid or we paid together. I never used any of it yet the insurance company kept the money. Now as a senior it time I get a rebate on all those years of paying them no matter what.
