Whoopi Goldberg, a co-host on The View, appeared to irk the show's executive producer, Brian Teta, by voicing her thoughts on the day's first Hot Topic, despite an earlier promise to remain silent.

The topic in question was the ongoing demonstrations against the Israel-Hamas conflict, which are currently taking place across American college campuses. The discussion centered around the fine line between "free speech" and "hate speech."

Goldberg made her stance clear, stating, "No one supports any antisemitic hate speech and students fearing for their safety. But do they have the right to peacefully protest about ending violence? Isn't this part of being an American and also standing up when you see something that's wrong?"

After each co-host shared their views, Goldberg felt compelled to add further commentary. "It is one of the great rights as an American to stand up and say something's wrong — regardless of what your color is, if you're a woman, a man, it doesn't matter," she said. "And we must teach our people how to be on the lookout."

Goldberg also criticized the media's role in shaping the narrative of the protests, suggesting that "clickbait" often overshadows the peaceful aspects of the demonstrations. "You don't see the folks who are doing peaceful stuff and saying, 'Here's what we want to do,'" she explained. "I would caution the media to be very careful about what they're doing and how they're handling this."

She expressed her approval of the students' pushback against the media's narrative, stating, "I like when students get mad and say, 'We want a change made.'"

Goldberg abruptly ended her commentary, however, noting Teta's apparent disapproval. "Unfortunately, I see that Brian is side-eyeing me and he's starting to get annoyed because I said I wasn't gonna say anything," she admitted to the audience. "So he knows me for the liar that I am."
