Breitbart reports the Iranians were happy after their team lost to the United States in the World Cup tournament.

On Tuesday, the U.S. won by a whopping 1-0 victory after Christian Pulisic made the winning goal.

As reported by Breitbart News, the winning goal took a toll on Pulisic. “The moment came in the 38th minute when fellow USMNT player Sergino Dest headed the ball to a hard-charging Pulisic, who put the ball and himself past the goalkeeper to give the U.S. a one-goal lead.” “However, while accomplishing this, the knee of Iran’s goalkeeper found Pulisic’s groin area.”

When night fell, social media became inundated with images and videos that showed what appeared to be an ongoing celebration by Iranians after the U.S. victory. Breitbart notes that the loss was a good platform for Iranians to use to protest the government’s crackdown on citizens supporting women’s rights.

According to Breitbart, some Iranians hoped the U.S. would win over the Iranian team.

A report from Fox News shared a statement from an anonymous Iranian woman who said, “It’s not just some people in Iran; it is the majority of people in Iran that want the U.S. to win.” She added, “Because a soccer team should bring honor to its people. They must be our champions.”

“But right now, people on the street are getting murdered. And people are burying children after they were killed, and the soccer team of the mullahs met [President] Ebrahim Raisi and celebrates someone’s birthday and laughed together. And they didn’t pay attention to the people. The football players just wanted to be the center of the attention.”

Breitbart reports that before the tournament, Iran filed a complaint with FIFA’s Ethics Committee demanding the U.S. be penalized with a 10-game ban for “offending the dignity” of the nation. This came about when the U.S. Soccer Federation posted a picture of Iran’s flag without the emblem of the Islamic Republic on social media.

The altered flag was to show the team’s solidarity with the “women in Iran fighting for basic human rights.” The U.S. Soccer Federation ultimately deflected the image of the flag.

The videos by Breitbart show the aftermath of the tournament and the response by Iranians, which included crowds of people standing in the streets, driving through the city, and ongoing loud hoots, whistles, music, dancing, honking horns, whistling, and fireworks.
