Under a voter-approved elections process being used for the first time in Alaska elections this year, party primaries have been substituted with open primaries in which the top four vote-getters in each race advance to the general election,. In the general election, ranked voting will be used.
Murkowski and Tshibaka, who former President Donald Trump supported, earned two slots in the Senate race, with results still being tabulated. The two different slots have not yet been decided.

In the House primary, Palin, Republican Nick Begich, and Democrat Mary Peltola has advanced to the November election. The last slot further had not yet been determined. The winner of the November race will be elected to a two-year term.
Peltola, Begich, and Palin were competing in a special election to serve the remaining term of the late-U.S. Rep. Don Young, which ends early next year. Young died in March.

The special election and primary races were on opposite sides of Tuesday's ballot. The winner of the ranked-choice special election may not be known until the end of the month.

In the race for Alaska governor, Republican Mike Dunleavy, Democrat Les Gara, and independent Bill Walker advanced to the November general election. Different candidates in the race include Republican state Rep. Christopher Kurka and Charlie Pierce, a Republican borough mayor.

In the special election, it could take until the end of August for votes to be estimated in America's geographically largest state.
The new voting rules mean that just voters' first choices will be counted at the beginning. If none of the three candidates exceeds the 50% threshold, second choices will be counted, and the candidate in last place will be disqualified and have their votes redistributed.

In the state's Senate race, Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski, 65, is through to November's election. In 2021, she voted to convict Trump in his second impeachment trial.

Out of the seven Republican senators who voted to convict the former president, she is the only one facing re-election this year.
One of Murkowski's foes will be Trump-supported Kelly Tshibaka, 42.
