President Joe Biden's Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is drafting intentions to drop off migrants in American towns hours past the U.S.-Mexico border, Republican lawmakers explain.

The potential policy is one way DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is attempting to ease the influx of migrants to U.S. border towns, according to a report from the New York Post. Rep. August Pfluger, R-Texas, addressed a letter to Mayorkas showing his concern regarding the government sending waves of migrants to San Angelo, Texas, a town he represents.

"San Angelo is a welcoming community, but the locality has not volunteered for this mission, nor are they responsible for the burdens of the border crisis," Pfluger announced in the letter.

"This situation is a direct result of DHS’ shortsighted policies that encourage more illegal immigration and the agency’s failure to establish operational control of the southern border," he went on.

Pfluger continued that he only found out regarding the DHS intentions after local law enforcement in San Angelo informed him.

The possible bus campaign comes months after Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sent busses of migrants to the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. in protest against the Biden administration's immigration policies.

"Texans demand and deserve an aggressive, comprehensive strategy to secure our border—not President Biden's lackluster leadership," Abbott announced in a statement back then. "As the federal government continues to roll back commonsense policies that once kept our communities safe, our local law enforcement has stepped up to protect Texans from dangerous criminals, deadly drugs, and illegal contraband flooding into the Lone Star State."

To date, Abbott has sent about 65 busses of migrants to the U.S. capital, amounting to over 2,000 people.

Meanwhile, it was reported that a shocking amount of roughly 239,416 illegal immigrants were arrested attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border in May, the highest number of border apprehensions ever registered by the U.S. government.

That two-decade high beats out the previous records of 221,303 southwest border apprehensions registered in March of 2022, the 234,088 arrests recorded in April of 2022, and the 220,063 noted in March 2000 when U.S. Border Patrol first started tracking arrests.

Since the start of the 2022 fiscal year in October, border officials have logged no less than 1.5 million arrests. That sharp growth in apprehensions puts the U.S. on track to witness over 2 million arrests at the Southwest border by the end of the fiscal year in September.

One look at the CBP’s “Southwest Land Border Encounters By Month” chart, which was lengthened to accommodate the unparalleled influx of illegal migration over the last year and a half, obviously indicates that the current surge began as soon as President Joe Biden took office in January of 2021 and hasn’t subsided since.
