Rudy Giuliani met with the House select committee investigating the Capitol riot on Friday after months of negotiations with the investigative body.

According to Democrat-aligned CNN, the former-personal attorney for former President Donald Trump talked with lawmakers for more than nine hours in a virtual interview.

Giuliani, 77, had canceled a formerly scheduled deposition with the panel earlier this month after investigators would not consent to let him record it, the network previously reported.

Trump had charged Giuliani with finding proof to support his allegations of election fraud after the Republican’s 2020 loss to President Biden.

The former New York mayor and US attorney filed dozens of lawsuits challenging the contest results and called on Trump followers to engage in “trial by combat” on the morning of the violent Jan. 6, 2021 uprising.

On the morning of the riots, Giuliani called for Trump supporters to “have trial by combat” to prevent Congress from certifying Biden’s victory.

“I’m willing to stake my reputation, the President is willing to stake his reputation, on the fact that we’re going to find criminality there,” he said during a rally in front of the White House.

After being subpoenaed, the Republican had told the panel he was willing to testify about his allegations of election fraud, yet did not intend to waive executive or attorney-client privilege, CNN reported.

Giuliani “actively promoted claims of election fraud on behalf of the former President and sought to convince state legislators to take steps to overturn the election results,” the House committee subpoena claimed.

The mostly Democratic committee had said it expected Giuliani to “cooperate fully.”

The nine-member panel, consisting of seven Democrats and two Republicans, has interviewed over 1,000 people. Earlier in the week, it denied a request from the Justice Department to share transcripts of the interviews, insisting such a move would be “premature.”

Over 800 people have been arrested in connection with the Justice Department’s investigation, which is the largest probe in US history, including more than a dozen members of Trump’s inner circle, officials said.
