According to a report, Jen Psaki is a top contender to replace Rachel Maddow at MSNBC as other networks court President Joe Biden’s press secretary.

In early February, executives at CNN and MSNBC reportedly traveled to Washington, D.C. CNN interim co-President Amy Entelis and CNN+ programming lead Rebecca Kutler made the trip to the capital to recruit Psaki.

Similarly, according to the report, NBC News Chairman Cesar Conde and MSNBC President Rashida Jones traveled to Washington to meet with the President’s spokeswoman. Psaki previously announced her plans to depart from the role in 2022 when it’s “time for somebody else to have this job.”

A source told the New York Post that Psaki is not close to signing a deal with any network despite being interested.

His timing couldn’t be better as TV networks are looking to shake up their lineups. And perhaps more urgently for CNN and MSNBC, both networks need new blood for their primetime shows. MSNBC lost its star anchor, Maddow, who has stepped away from her 9 pm ET show to pursue other projects. Last month, Maddow announced a hiatus from her nightly program on MSNBC. At the time, she said the break would end in April. “There may eventually be another hiatus again sometime in my future, but for now, we are just taking it one step at a time,” she added.
