Comedian Seth Rogen faced a slew of criticism Wednesday after encouraging residents to normalize crime in big cities such as Los Angeles.

The statement came as a response to content creator Casey Neistat, who tweeted this his "cars got robbed this morning because Los Angeles is a crime riddled 3rd world shithole of a city but tremendous appreciation and gratitude to the hardworking officers at the @LAPDWestLA who not only arrested the motherfucker but they got all of our stolen goods back."

Seth Rogen replied to Neistat, saying, "Dude I've lived here for over 20 years. You're nuts haha. It's lovely here. Don't leave anything valuable in it. It's called living in a big city."

Neistat replied, "I can still be mad though right? Feel so violated."

Rogen maintained, suggesting Neistat not only gets used to crime but opens himself up to the chance of getting items the criminal may leave behind.

"You can be mad but I guess I don't personally view my car as an extension of myself and I've never really felt violated any of the 15 or so times my car was broken into. Once a guy accidentally left a cool knife in my car so if it keeps happening you might get a little treat," Rogen said.

"I didn't get any treats," Neistat replied. "He just took the decorations for my daughter's 7th birthday party and left bloody handprints. Serious question; how did you get your car broken into 15 times?"

"I lived in West Hollywood for 20 years and parked on the street," Rogan replied. "Also it sucks your shit was stolen but LA is not some shithole city. As far as big cities go it has a lot going for it," he concluded.

Following the publication of these tweets, Rogen went viral on social media, with many pointing out the absurdity of his perception of crime.

In addition to the backlash, Rogen seemingly doubled down and began directly messaging multiple Twitter users with profanities in addition to the criticism.

Multiple Californians have started to push back against laws that have added to out-of-control lootings, such as what happened to a San Francisco-area Nordstrom and Louis Vuitton over the weekend.

Democratic and Republican lawmakers alike told the Washington Examiner that a 2014 law known as Prop. 47 helped create the crime surge in California by downgrading thefts under $950 to misdemeanors. This, combined with follow-up laws that removed prison as a punishment for nonfelonies, created a crime wave that law enforcement could not keep up with.

"As a Democrat, I believe in criminal justice reform. There are inequities in our system where we need to create a justice system for all. However, we have gone too far," said California state Sen. Melissa Hurtado. "The state of California has been doing it wrong. It needs to change."
