In a significant development in Yorkshire, England, a total of 346 years of imprisonment has been meted out to a group of predominantly Muslim men found guilty of sexually exploiting underage girls.

The West Yorkshire Police, in a statement released on Saturday, confirmed that 25 men had been sentenced for various sex-related offences.

The statement read, "Following a major police investigation, dozens of men who sexually exploited young girls in Kirklees have been incarcerated for a combined 346 years. The latest men convicted as part of Operation Tourway were sentenced at Leeds Crown Court yesterday (April 26). This multi-year investigation delved into the historical sexual exploitation of young girls in North Kirklees."

The convicted individuals include Asif Ali (53) from Batley, Mohammed Tausif Hanif (39) from Dewsbury, Ali Shah (38) from Dewsbury, Moshin Nadat (38) from Heckmondwike, Sarfraz Miraf (38) from Dewsbury, Mohammed Nazam Nasser (38) from Batley, and Amir Ali Hussain (45) from Batley. All of them were found guilty of multiple offences.

In addition, an eighth man was subjected to a hospital order following a court finding. This brings the total number of men sentenced for their involvement in the rape, sexual abuse, and trafficking of eight young girls in North Kirklees between 1999 and 2012 to 25.

One of the convicts received a sentence exceeding 30 years during the trials, which were largely protected by reporting restrictions to ensure fair trials. With the lifting of these restrictions, the identities of 24 men and full details of their sentences can now be disclosed.

Operation Tourway is the latest in a series of cases involving predominantly Muslim men convicted of egregious sexual crimes against young girls, often on a widespread scale. The most infamous of these cases is the Rotherham grooming gangs scandal, where approximately 1,400 children were abused by gangs of British-Pakistani men between 1997 and 2013.

Despite some of the perpetrators being convicted, many managed to evade justice as the police reportedly declined to act on reports of sexual abuse, fearing accusations of racism.
