Vedarte-Gonzalez had been experiencing severe discomfort during the final week of her pregnancy, leading her to visit the Banner Casa Grande Medical Center in Phoenix three times to ensure her baby's wellbeing. Each time, she was sent home.
The family told KTVK that Vedarte-Gonzalez returned to the hospital early on Sunday, the day her daughter Luzbella was born. Despite her condition, she was allegedly discharged and advised to wait for her scheduled induction on May 25.
Approximately two hours after returning home, Vedarte-Gonzalez's pain intensified, prompting an urgent return to the hospital. However, by the time her mother, Lucy Villanueva, parked the car, Vedarte-Gonzalez was already in active labor.
Villanueva, who claims she could already see her granddaughter's head, had no time to fetch a doctor and ended up delivering the baby herself.

"She said, 'Mom, it's coming! We got to go!' 'It's coming! I feel it. It's already coming out,' and I couldn't believe it … when I opened the door, I saw the head already," Villanueva recounted to the TV station.

After assisting in her granddaughter's birth, Villanueva placed the newborn on her daughter and rushed inside the hospital to seek help.
"I didn't know what to do. I just placed the baby on her and I ran inside and I said 'Help! help! You know, she's having a baby! The baby's out!'" Villanueva said.

Medical staff attended to Vedarte-Gonzalez in the parking lot before readmitting her to the hospital, where she reportedly stayed for one night.
Despite the "really traumatic" experience, both mother and daughter are healthy, Villanueva confirmed.

However, the Banner Casa Grande Medical Center has seemingly disputed the family's account. A hospital spokesperson told DailyMail.com, "Scherazade Luz Vedarte-Gonzalez was seen and assessed prior to delivery. She was not in active labor and chose to go home. She delivered several hours later. We are happy that both Ms. Vedarte-Gonzalez and her baby are doing well following delivery."
