In a recent development, Representative Matt Gaetz has disclosed that his request to interview political detainee Dr. Peter Navarro has been rejected by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

The Bureau cited Navarro's "notoriety" as the reason for this denial.

Dr. Peter Navarro, a distinguished economist who served in the Trump administration, is currently serving a four-month prison sentence. His incarceration comes as a result of his failure to comply with a subpoena during Liz Cheney's investigation into the events of January 6th. Navarro is widely recognized for his report that unveiled the extensive fraud that occurred during the 2020 presidential election.

Rep. Gaetz shared the details of this refusal on a social media platform, arguing that other political detainees have been granted the opportunity to interact with the media. He stated, "I was informed today by the Director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons that my request to interview [Peter Navarro] would be denied. And her reason is that Peter Navarro is 'too notorious' to be interviewed by a member of Congress! John Gotti was interviewed in prison. The QAnon Shaman was interviewed in prison. Director Peters HERSELF brought NBC News THROUGH PRISONS to showcase the work of corrections that’s being done! This only vindicates the claim made by Peter Navarro that he is being held as a political prisoner."

Further addressing the issue from the House floor, Gaetz added that Navarro is also being denied access to his legal counsel. He expressed, “I think there is something else afoot here, Mr. Navarro I’m being told is not being allowed to access his attorney and it is because it is shameful what is being done to Peter Navarro based on a sham January 6th committee and a sham indictment and a sham conviction that we ought to work to remediate immediately upon on President Trump’s rightful and righteous return to office.”

In a related development last month, the Supreme Court rejected Navarro's bid for release from prison pending his appeal. This decision implies that Navarro will likely serve his entire sentence before he can appeal his conviction at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
