Utah has once again been crowned the best state in the United States, according to the 2024 rankings from U.S. News & World Report.

This marks the second consecutive year that the state has clinched the top spot. Utah's impressive performance in the areas of education, economy, infrastructure, and fiscal stability, where it ranked second, third, sixth, and sixth respectively, contributed to its high overall ranking.

Governor Spencer Cox of Utah attributes the state's success to its vibrant economy, stunning natural beauty, and most importantly, its people. "Utah has a vibrant, diverse economy and unsurpassed natural beauty, but what truly sets our state apart is our people," he stated. "We lead the nation in volunteering and charitable giving every year and this spirit of community leads to a collaborative approach to problem solving, an ecosystem that supports innovation, and a culture that strengthens families and individuals."

The rankings evaluated states across eight categories, including health care, education, economy, infrastructure, opportunity, fiscal stability, crime and corrections, and natural environment. The evaluation process involved considering over 70 metrics and tens of thousands of data points, such as employment, internet access, affordability, and public safety.

The number of homes for sale increased by 15% annually, even though the median home list price dropped by 2.6% year over year. Carson noted that the market is competitive, with one of his reasonably priced listings near downtown Salt Lake City receiving 23 offers in April.

The report did not include a complete list of the best states in America in 2024, but it did provide the median home list prices for several states, ranging from $309,225 to $799,999.
