A teacher from Wisconsin has been apprehended on allegations of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a 5th-grade student.

Madison Bergmann, 24, a faculty member at River Crest Elementary in Hudson, Wisconsin, was taken into custody on Wednesday following the emergence of information about "inappropriate conduct between a current teacher and a 5th grade student," as reported by WCCO-TV.

The information was brought forward by the parents of the 11-year-old student, who unearthed evidence of the inappropriate relationship in the form of text messages exchanged between their son and Bergmann. The messages reportedly contained details about the alleged relationship, including "kissing, touching, and making out," according to KARE-TV.

The evidence was presented to school administrators by the parents on Wednesday, prompting immediate police involvement. Further investigation by the police unearthed additional evidence. As per WCCO, Bergmann claimed that the student's mother had given her the 11-year-old's phone number during a ski trip over winter break. However, when confronted with the evidence, Bergmann chose to exercise her right to remain silent.

The school officials released a statement expressing their concern, stating, "Learning about a school staff member and alleged inappropriate conduct that breaches trust is deeply troubling for all of us. Bergmann is facing a charge of first-degree child sexual assault. She was released from jail on a $25,000 signature bond and is due back in court later this month. As part of her release conditions, Bergmann is required to wear a GPS-monitoring device and is prohibited from contacting the victim or any other individual under 18. A wedding website indicates that Bergmann is engaged, with her wedding planned for the end of July, less than three months away.
