In a controversial move, the Monticello Police Department in New York has reinstated a former officer, Jeremy Solomon, who had previously admitted to sexually assaulting a 15-year-old in 2017.

Solomon, who resigned from his position following the admission, is currently facing pending felony charges, as reported by New York News 12.

Solomon was sentenced to a three-year probation period following his admission of guilt. Interestingly, he was 24 years old at the time of the assault, but due to a clerical error that listed him as 17, his case was dismissed, as per the court records examined by the news outlet.

Court documents reveal that Solomon "engaged in oral sexual conduct with the 15-year-old." Despite his past and a recent arrest in January, Solomon has been reinstated as a dispatcher.

Former Monticello Mayor George Nikolados expressed his concern to the news outlet, stating, “The biggest victims here are the community. A sexual assault victim having to go into a police department wouldn’t know if they’re even safe in our own police department to report a crime.”

Nikolados explained that Solomon managed to secure his position as a dispatcher in 2022, following his resignation and admission of sexual assault. Solomon reportedly sued to regain his position.

However, Solomon's legal troubles did not end there. In January 2024, he was arrested again and suspended by the village board for allegedly falsifying his criminal record on his new police application. He now faces felony charges of falsifying records and offering a false instrument with intent to defraud.

Nikolados told the outlet, “He’s under the impression that since his case was thrown out on a technicality that the statement he made under oath doesn’t count.”

The former mayor also accused Solomon of political manipulation during the election, alleging that Solomon was "extorting" him. "Basically, extorting me saying if you don’t put me back in as a police officer, I’m going to take these ballots and give it to the other guys," Nikolados claimed.

According to Nikolados and other law enforcement sources, newly elected government officials permitted Solomon to return to work in April, further fueling the controversy surrounding his reinstatement.
