In a shocking revelation from her upcoming book, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has admitted to killing her dog and a family goat, a confession that has significantly impacted her chances of becoming Donald Trump's vice president, according to online betting market Polymarket.

Polymarket, a platform where users can wager on a wide variety of events, has seen Noem's odds of becoming Trump's running mate plummet to a mere 4 percent, a significant drop from the 10 percent chance she held just this past Thursday, as reported by Newsweek.

The betting market now favors South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, who holds a 22 percent chance of becoming Trump's running mate. New York congresswoman Elise Stefanik and Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, previously considered potential favorites for the VP slot, are now at 9 percent and 6 percent, respectively.

This shift in betting odds comes as President Joe Biden has recently surpassed the GOP's presumed candidate Trump in the betting odds for the upcoming election, with the Democrat leading by just over a percentage point.

In her forthcoming book, Noem recounts how she shot her own animals to demonstrate her ability to handle situations that are 'difficult, messy and ugly.' The book, titled No Going Back: The Truth on What's Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward, is set to be released on May 7.

Noem's book details the story of her dog, Cricket, who she shot at the gravel pit on her family property, just moments before her children returned from school. The dog, according to Noem, had an 'aggressive personality' that could not be tamed. This was evidenced by Cricket's disruptive behavior during a pheasant hunt, where she was 'out of her mind with excitement, chasing all those birds and having the time of her life.'

The South Dakota governor also recounted an incident where Cricket began killing a local family's chickens like 'a trained assassin.' An excerpt from the book obtained by the Guardian describes how Cricket 'grabbed one chicken at a time, crunching it to death with one bite, then dropping it to attack another.' When Noem finally managed to grab the dog, she wrote that Cricket 'whipped around to bite me.'

Noem compensated the chickens' owner for the loss and helped dispose of the carcasses. In her book, she wrote, 'I hated that dog,' believing the 14-month-old dog to be 'untrainable,' 'dangerous to anyone she came in contact with' and 'less than worthless ... as a hunting dog.' This led to her decision to kill Cricket.

Noem also decided to kill the family goat, describing him as 'nasty and mean.' The goat was uncastrated, had a 'disgusting, musky [and] rancid' smell, and frequently chased the governor's children. Noem 'dragged him to the gravel pit' as well, but the goat jumped as she tried to shoot him, leaving him briefly alive. Noem had to retrieve another shell from her truck and then 'hurried back to the gravel pit and put him down.'

The governor's actions were witnessed by a construction crew working nearby. Moments later, her children arrived home from school. Noem recalled her daughter asking, 'Hey where's Cricket?' Noem then admitted, 'I guess if I were a better politician I wouldn't tell the story here.'

The internet has since been abuzz with reactions to her story. Alyssa Farah Griffin, a sharp critic of Trump and his former White House communications director, wrote that anyone 'who would needlessly hurt an animal because they are inconvenient needs help.'

Rick Wilson, one of the co-founders of the anti-Trump Lincoln Project, called Noem 'trash.' He criticized her for killing a puppy due to her own laziness in training bird dogs, not because it was a bad dog. Wilson argued that most dogs are trainable or re-homeable and should be humanely put down 'not by shooting them and tossing them in a gravel pit.' He concluded by saying, 'Unsporting and deliberately cruel ... but she wrote this to prove the cruelty is the point.'
