Presidential candidate for the Green Party, Jill Stein, found herself in police custody on Saturday following an incident at Washington University.

Stein, along with her campaign staff, had joined a pro-Palestinian demonstration at the St. Louis, Missouri-based institution, which culminated in a confrontation with law enforcement officers.

The students of Washington University are part of a broader, nationwide movement of campus protests. The demonstrations are aimed at severing their respective colleges' connections to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Over the weekend, several videos surfaced on social media platform X, capturing Stein's active participation in the protest. One particular clip depicts the Green Party candidate resisting police attempts to corral the protesters using bicycles, by physically pushing back.

Among those arrested alongside Stein were Jason Call, her campaign manager, and Kelly Merrill-Cayer, the deputy campaign manager.

Prior to her arrest, Stein recorded a video explaining her actions. "We're standing here with the students at WashU standing up for our constitutional rights, standing up for the American people who want an end to this genocide now," she stated in a self-recorded video. She continued, "Police are gathered here," while showing a view of the assembled law enforcement, "and we're going to stand here in line with the students."

Throughout the video, the rallying cry of the student protesters, "Hold the line," can be heard echoing in the background.
