In a recent statement, Israeli Minister of Diaspora Affairs, Amichai Chikli, expressed his belief that former President Donald Trump would be more beneficial to Israel and the Jewish community amidst the ongoing conflict with Hamas and rising regional tensions with Hezbollah and Iran.

Chikli, a member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party, criticized President Biden's approach, suggesting that it was detrimental to Israel and lacked the necessary strength to address the escalating threats.

Chikli was quoted by the Times of Israel saying, "The US is not projecting strength under [Biden’s] leadership, and it’s harming Israel and other countries." He further added, "He said ‘Don’t’ at the start of the war — to Hezbollah, as well as Iran. We saw the result," referring to Iran's unprecedented direct attack on Israel with hundreds of missiles and drones. Chikli also stated that if he had the right to vote in American elections, he would cast his ballot for Trump and the Republicans.

This statement comes as Israel marks the 200th day of its conflict with Hamas in Gaza. Initially, Biden supported Israel's right to defend itself following the deadliest attack in Israel's history, led by Hamas on October 7, 2023. However, as Palestinian casualties continued to rise, Biden's stance seemed to shift, leading to criticism of Israel.

Biden's administration faced challenges in securing swift Congressional approval for additional financial and military support for Israel. The legislation finally passed the U.S. Senate on Tuesday, and Biden is expected to sign it into law.

The Democratic president's language has noticeably changed. On Monday, he urged people to learn from the violent antisemitic protests on college campuses, which he condemned. "I condemn the antisemitic protests. That’s why I have set up a program to deal with that. I also condemn those who don't understand what's going on with the Palestinians and how they're being treated," Biden told reporters.

Biden's remarks were quickly compared to Trump's 2017 comments on the Charlottesville riots, where he blamed both sides and claimed there were "very fine people, on both sides."

Chikli's comments were met with criticism from Israel’s opposition leader, prompting him to clarify his statement. "Biden is a friend of Israel, but he’s under intense pressure that is affecting him and creating real damage to relations between the countries," Chikli said, according to the Times of Israel.

On Tuesday, Trump also commented on the anti-Israel protests occurring at elite U.S. colleges and universities. "What's going on at the college level… Columbia, NYU and others is a disgrace," Trump said. He blamed Biden for the situation, stating, "He's got the wrong words. He doesn't know who he's backing. And it's a mess."

Trump continued his criticism of Biden, blaming him for the current state of the country. "What's going on is a disgrace to our country. And it's all Biden's fault, and everybody knows it. He's got no message, he's got no compassion and doesn't know what he's doing," Trump said, labeling Biden as the "worst president in the history of our country."

Fox News’ Sean Hannity also criticized Biden last week, suggesting that the October 7 attack "might not have been possible without Joe Biden's policy of appeasement and the enrichment of Iran." Hannity further commented on Iran's accelerated nuclear program and their direct attack on Israel, which occurred just two days after Biden issued a warning before leaving for a weekend break.
