In a dramatic turn of events on Tuesday night, pro-Palestine activists were arrested outside the residence of Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer in New York City.

The incident, which was captured on video and shared on social media platforms, showed a large crowd of protesters being apprehended by officials from the New York Police Department (NYPD). The activists, associated with the group "Jewish Voices for Peace," had reportedly convened outside Schumer's Brooklyn Street home around 8 p.m. for an event dubbed "Seder in the Streets." The gathering was aimed at urging leaders to cease arming Israel.

As the night progressed, the crowd swelled into hundreds, with protesters chanting slogans such as "Let Gaza live" and "Free Palestine." They congregated around a prominent sign that declared, "Jews say Stop Arming Israel."

The situation took a dramatic turn when officials began issuing warnings to the protesters. A video clip captured by freelance journalist New York City People showed an officer stating, "You're blocking vehicular traffic. If you do not move or get onto the sidewalk right now, you will be arrested for disorderly conduct."

Despite the warnings, the protesters continued their demonstration, chanting "Stop funding genocide" and "Let Gaza live," while maintaining their position around the large banner. Officers, armed with zip-tie handcuffs, waited in anticipation of the protesters' next move.

While some reports suggest that over a hundred arrests were made, the exact number as recorded by the authorities remains unclear.

The city has witnessed a surge in protests over the past week, initiated by Columbia University students on April 17. This has inspired similar demonstrations at other educational institutions, including Yale University and UC Berkeley. Amid escalating tensions, Columbia University announced on Tuesday that the remaining classes for the semester would transition online as protests continue.
