Mike Rowe, renowned for his candid commentary and his former role as the host of the hit television series "Dirty Jobs," has been a vocal critic of America's over-reliance on higher education as the sole avenue to prosperity.

In 2008, Rowe established the mikeroweWORKS Foundation, a national public relations initiative advocating for skilled labor. The foundation's website states, "America has become slowly but undeniably disconnected from the most fundamental elements of civilization—food, energy, education, and the very nature of work itself."

Rowe argues that over the past three decades, America has persuaded itself that the optimal route for the majority is an expensive, four-year degree. He believes that popular culture has exalted the "corner office job," inadvertently disparaging the jobs that constructed the corner office. Consequently, society has devalued any other path to success and happiness.

"Community colleges, trade schools, and apprenticeship programs are labeled as 'alternative.' Millions of well-intended parents and guidance counselors see apprenticeships and on-the-job training opportunities as 'vocational consolation prizes,' best suited for those not cut out for the brass ring: a four-year degree. The push for higher education has coincided with the removal of vocational arts from high schools nationwide. And the effects of this one-two punch have laid the foundation for a widening skills gap and massive student loan debt," the website reads.

Rowe's concern about the current state of college campuses, where the emphasis on a woke agenda has replaced a robust education designed to produce productive members of society, is increasingly evident.

In recent days, protests on campuses have escalated in violence, including attacks on Jewish students, with chaos erupting at Columbia University in New York City. Similar protests have been reported at campuses nationwide.

Rowe took to social media to express his concerns and juxtapose the chaos on campuses with the situation at trade schools.

"For a guy who runs a foundation that sends young people to trade schools all over America – trade schools where I’m pleased to report, no one is calling for the extermination of Jews – today’s headlines are once again offering another excellent reason to consider redirecting whatever financial support you might earmark for the Ivy League, to the mikeroweWORKS Foundation. Why? Because the Ivy League has truly lost its mind," Rowe wrote.

He cited the recent upheaval at Columbia University, where President Minochuhe Shafik announced a new round of remote learning in response to a group of protesters calling for the eradication of Israel.

Rowe expressed his disbelief that the university president would rather subject her students to another round of remote learning than permanently expel the protesters. He highlighted the protesters' blatant aggression towards Jewish students, quoting one student who said, "They yelled at us to go back to Poland, said we have no culture, and chanted, 'Strike, strike Tel Aviv,' followed by, 'Burn Tel Aviv to the ground,' 'Go Hamas, we love you, we support your rockets, too.'"

Rowe concluded his post by encouraging applications for the next round of work ethic scholarships offered by the mikeroweWORKS Foundation. He emphasized that the careers they are training people for cannot be taught or performed remotely and that they accept donations year-round and spend the money they take in with great discretion.

Rowe's critique of the current state of higher education and his advocacy for alternative paths to success underscore his commitment to addressing the widening skills gap and the mounting student loan debt in America. His foundation's work continues to provide opportunities for young people to pursue careers in skilled labor, offering a viable alternative to the traditional four-year degree.
