In an unusual disclosure, Saudi Arabia has confirmed its role in assisting a newly formed regional military coalition, comprising Israel, the United States, Jordan, the United Kingdom, and France, in thwarting an Iranian assault on Israel early Sunday.

The revelation was made via a post on the Saudi royal family's website.

The post referred to a report by KAN News, detailing Saudi Arabia's participation in the defensive military operation that successfully neutralized 99% of the Iranian drones and missiles before they could reach their intended targets. The trajectory of these projectiles necessitated their passage through Jordanian and Saudi airspace en route to Israel.

While Jordan has openly acknowledged its involvement, Saudi Arabia's admission was more indirect, coming in the form of a summary of a conversation with a source from the Saudi royal family, as reported by KAN News.

The source tacitly confirmed Saudi Arabia's alleged role in intercepting Iranian attack drones headed for Israel, stating that Saudi Arabian airspace automatically intercepts "any suspicious entity," according to the report on the royal family's website.

The same source also criticized Iran, accusing it of instigating conflict in Gaza in a calculated attempt to undermine the progress made towards normalizing relations with Israel, as per KAN's report. The official, as quoted by KAN, stated, "Iran is a nation that endorses terrorism, and the world should have curtailed it much earlier."

Prior to the October 7 invasion by Hamas, the United States had been engaged in vigorous diplomatic efforts to broker a three-way deal. This agreement would have included a strategic pact between Riyadh and Washington against Iran, a normalization deal between Saudi Arabia and Israel, and a renewed pathway to Palestinian statehood.

However, the attack by Hamas on October 7 derailed these efforts. Despite this setback, Western powers, with military forces stationed in the region, were able to collaborate with Arab partners, including Saudi Arabia, to form a military alliance against Iran.

This joint defensive military operation marked the first instance of these five armies, with assistance from Saudi Arabia, working together as an emerging coalition to counter an Iranian attack.
