Riddhi Patel, an activist advocating for a ceasefire, who allegedly threatened to assassinate members of the Bakersfield City Council, made her initial court appearance, vehemently denying all charges.

During her arraignment, Patel was observed in a state of emotional distress, shedding tears and struggling to regulate her breathing as she confronted the serious charges of issuing threats.

Patel was apprehended on Wednesday subsequent to her presence at the council meeting where she urged the council to advocate for a ceasefire in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.

Patel expressed her skepticism towards the council members, stating, "I don't have faith that you'll do this. You guys are all horrible human beings, and Jesus probably would've killed you himself."

She further escalated her rhetoric, expressing her hope that “one day somebody brings the guillotine and kills” the council members. She added, “We'll see you at your house. We'll murder you."

Following her threats, law enforcement officers intervened, arresting Patel. She now faces an array of felony charges, predominantly related to issuing threats with the intent to terrorize. Patel's bail has been set at a staggering $1 million, and she continues to be held in jail as she awaits further legal proceedings.
