James Carville, a seasoned strategist who once spearheaded Bill Clinton's campaign, voiced his apprehension on Sunday regarding the dwindling number of young voters aligning with the Democratic Party.

Recent polling data from February revealed that President Joe Biden received backing from 52% of Americans aged between 18 and 34, a demographic traditionally seen as a crucial voting bloc for Democrats. In contrast, former President Donald Trump garnered support from 48% of this demographic. Carville, during his appearance on "Carville's Classroom," described this shift as a worrying trend, especially considering the voting patterns of previous presidential elections, including 2020.

"I've been very vocal about this," Carville stated. "It's horrifying our numbers among younger voters, particularly younger blacks, younger latinos … younger people of color. Particularly males. We're not shedding them, they’re leaving in droves."

In the 2020 presidential election, Biden's coalition heavily relied on younger voters. A Pew Research Center analysis found that 59% of voters aged 18 to 29 cast their ballots for Biden, while Trump secured 33% of the votes from this group.

Some polls suggest that Biden's recent dip in popularity among younger voters is tied to his handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict. Young voters perceive Biden as leaning towards Israel, which has reportedly affected their support.

"I think this issue is deep, and I think it’s a lot deeper than just progressive advocates or young people or college campuses," Carville commented on the Middle East conflict in February. "I hope the president can get some kind of ceasefire and take this off the front burner because, frankly, its damage politically is pretty substantial. And if we get to Chicago at the convention and this thing is still going on, I don’t want to think about what‘s going to happen there."

According to Gallup data released in February, the Democratic Party's significant lead over the Republicans among black Americans and Hispanic Americans aged 18 to 29 has seen a nearly 20% decline over the past three years.
