Maryland Governor Makes BIG Announcement About Key Bridge Investigation Efforts

In the wake of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse, Maryland Governor Wes Moore has declared the current conditions as "unsafe" for rescue divers due to weather and debris.

During a press conference, Moore, flanked by Baltimore City Mayor Brandon Scott, state police Superintendent Col. Roland Butler, and first responders, expressed his concerns about the hazardous conditions in the water.

"We're talking about debris, we're talking about wreckage. We're talking about pieces of the Key Bridge that are in the water," Moore stated, emphasizing the dangers posed by the debris from the collapsed bridge.

The Governor reassured the public that the safety of the first responders is a priority, and no compromises would be made in this regard. "We are going to ensure the safety of our first responders and we are not going to compromise one for the other," Moore asserted. He further added that rescue operations would resume as soon as conditions permit.

In addition to the rescue efforts, Moore announced that the Army Corps of Engineers and its partners would commence crane operations to remove the northern sections of the bridge. He described the operation as "a remarkably complicated process" that would eventually lead to the opening of a temporary restricted channel to facilitate more vessels around the collapse site.

The Governor also expressed his gratitude to the responding agencies and the Biden-Harris Administration for their support following the disaster.

The calamity occurred when a Singaporean-flagged container ship, the Dali, collided with the bridge, causing it to collapse and sending eight Central American construction workers into the water. Two of the workers were rescued, while the bodies of two others have been recovered. The remaining four are presumed dead.

The Dali, owned by Grace Ocean Private Ltd. and chartered by Danish shipping giant Maersk, was carrying over 4,000 metal shipping containers, 56 of which contained hazardous materials. Thirteen of these containers were destroyed in the incident.

In response to potential environmental hazards, booms have been deployed to contain any oil leakage, and state environmental officials have begun sampling the water.
