In a recent development, Texas law enforcement has apprehended an additional 70 undocumented immigrants implicated in the widely publicized border breach in El Paso.

The incident involved a group of immigrants rushing and attacking National Guard personnel in an attempt to unlawfully gain entry into the United States. This follows the arrest of nine immigrants on riot-related charges earlier this week.

An official from Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) disclosed to the New York Post that the 70 individuals were taken into custody on misdemeanor riot charges. The official further revealed that ICE is currently detaining over 200 immigrants in relation to the incident. However, the lack of cooperation from federal authorities is posing a challenge to charging these individuals, as they are not as cooperative as the Border Patrol.

The state of Texas had previously charged nine immigrants who were allegedly part of the assault on the National Guard at the El Paso border. The charges included inciting a riot, property damage exceeding $2,500, and assault on Guard members, as reported by the outlet.

The rioters reportedly damaged state-installed border wire and knocked down troops as they stormed Gate 36, hoping that Border Patrol officials on the other side would apprehend them and allow them entry into the United States. Prior to the stampede, soldiers in the vicinity were directing small groups of single adult immigrants back into Mexico.

The situation escalated when the rioters decided to charge at the guardsmen. According to a National Guard source, several rioters were found in possession of knives and shanks. During the confrontation, at least one immigrant attempted to seize a soldier's firearm. Some of the soldiers stationed near Gate 36 that day were later treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.

In response to the incident, Texas has bolstered its border security by increasing the number of National Guard troops and Department of Public Safety officers stationed in El Paso. The state has also enhanced the border wire in the region to deter unauthorized crossings and encourage immigrants to use official ports of entry.
