The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), the leading intelligence agency in the United States, has recently issued a list of prohibited terms deemed potentially offensive to certain American citizens.

The ODNI, which oversees the nation's intelligence operations, has included phrases such as "jihadists" and "radical Islamists" in its list, arguing that these terms could be offensive to the Muslim community.

The Washington Free Beacon's Adam Kredo reported, "The United States’ top intelligence agency wants to ban its spies from using 'biased language,' including the terms 'radical Islamists' and 'jihadist,' saying these words 'are hurtful to Muslim-Americans and detrimentally impact our efforts as they bolster extremist rhetoric,' according to a language guide published internally."

The ODNI's initiative extends beyond terms related to Islamic terrorism. It also advises employees to refrain from using phrases like "blacklisted," "cakewalk," "brown bag," "grandfathered," and "sanity check."

The agency argues that "blacklisted" implies a negative connotation with the color black, while "cakewalk" refers to a dance performed by slaves for their owners. The term "brown bag," commonly used to describe a lunch bag, is said to reference discriminatory practices within the African American community in the 20th century.

These guidelines were outlined in an internal magazine produced by the agency’s Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility. The Daily Wire first reported the document, highlighting it as a recent example of how Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives within the US government are influencing the language and conduct of employees in national security roles.

Critics, however, view these programs as a manifestation of a "woke" cultural shift, driven by far-left activists and their allies in the Biden administration.

Congressional Republicans are reportedly seeking to cut millions in federal funding for DEI programs across the military and other agencies, contending that they undermine the country's national security operations worldwide.
