Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas has been placed on a wanted list by Russia, according to an official register released on Tuesday, amidst escalating tensions between Russia and the West regarding Ukraine.

Kallas' name was listed on the Interior Ministry's register of individuals wanted in connection with criminal allegations, although the specific charges against her were not disclosed. This marks the first instance of a foreign leader being included on this wanted list by the ministry.

Known for her staunch support of Ukraine, Kallas has actively advocated for increased military aid to Kyiv and the enforcement of stricter sanctions against Russia.

Additionally, her advocacy for the removal of monuments commemorating Soviet World War II soldiers has further strained relations with Moscow, given Russia's legislation prohibiting the defilement of war memorials under the pretext of combating the "rehabilitation of Nazis."

In a related development, Estonian Secretary of State Taimar Peterkop was also listed on the wanted register.

These actions by Moscow are perceived as a strategic move to escalate tensions amidst mounting pressure from NATO allies, particularly as the conflict in Ukraine approaches its two-year mark.

However, the practical implications of these listings remain limited, given the current freeze in Russia-West communications due to the ongoing conflict.

At the time of reporting, there has been no immediate response from Estonian authorities regarding this development.
