In a recent development, former President Donald Trump has lauded Robert F Kennedy Jr's presidential bid, stating that it is rendering "a great service to America" by potentially drawing votes away from incumbent President Joe Biden.

This assertion comes despite the looming possibility that the Independent candidate could inadvertently jeopardize Trump's own chances.

Trump took to Truth Social, his social media platform, shortly after RFK Jr announced Nicole Shanahan, a lawyer and Silicon Valley investor, as his running mate. Trump proclaimed, "RFK Jr is the most Radical Left Candidate in the race, by far. He’s a big fan of the Green New Scam, and other economy killing disasters. I guess this would mean he is going to be taking votes from Crooked Joe Biden, which would be a great service to America."

Trump further characterized Shanahan as even more 'Liberal' than Kennedy, adding, "Kennedy is a Radical Left Democrat, and always will be!!!" He continued to express his delight at Kennedy's run, stating, "It’s great for MAGA, but the Communists will make it very hard for him to get on the Ballot. Expect him, and her, to be indicted any day now, probably for Environmental Fraud! He is Crooked Joe Biden’s Political Opponent, not mine. I love that he is running!”

However, beneath Trump's enthusiastic endorsement of Kennedy's run, there may be underlying concerns that the Independent candidate could potentially siphon votes from his own campaign.

Democratic activists reportedly fear that an increased number of candidates could harm President Biden more than his predecessor. However, current polls suggest that Kennedy could attract approximately the same number of supporters from both Biden and Trump in the upcoming November elections.

The latest RealClear Polling average predicts Trump winning a three-way race between the three candidates by a 5.4 per cent margin, securing 40.7 per cent of the vote to Biden’s 35.3 per cent and Kennedy’s 12.3 per cent.

In response to Kennedy's candidacy, Democrats have launched attacks against him. During a Democratic National Committee call with reporters, California Congressman Robert Garcia labeled Kennedy a “tinfoil hat conspiracy theorist” and “anti-science” and “anti-truth” due to his well-known stance against vaccines.

Garcia also accused Kennedy of running a “spoiler campaign”, stating, “He’s likely interested in trying to get Donald Trump elected.”

Pennsylvania Democratic Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis echoed Garcia's sentiments, alleging that Kennedy "was drafted into this race by Donald Trump’s top supporters" and asserting, "He has no realistic path to victory in Pennsylvania. All we can do is take away votes from President Biden and make it easier for Donald Trump to win and we simply can’t afford to let that happen.”

Interestingly, Kennedy has previously claimed that Trump approached him to be his running mate. If true, this could be the most explicit indication yet that Trump perceives Kennedy as a potential threat to his own candidacy and sought to neutralize the risk by incorporating him into the MAGA fold.
