A Tesla owner recently discovered that his infidelity could potentially be exposed through the vehicle's app, a revelation he shared on an online platform.

The man, who has not yet been caught in his adulterous acts, posted his findings on Reddit, warning others of the potential risks associated with the app's tracking features.

The man, who chose to remain anonymous, explained that the Tesla app could allow his wife to track his location, monitor his driving speed, identify where he parks the vehicle, and even detect if there is another passenger in the car. His post on Reddit has since garnered over 140 comments, with some users offering advice on how to circumvent the app's tracking features, while others suggested he simply remain faithful to his wife.

In his post, the man lamented, "Tesla is KILLING my OPSEC," using the military intelligence term for 'operational security,' which refers to the measures taken to prevent adversaries from discovering one's tactics. He further elaborated on the app's capabilities, warning potential Tesla buyers of the extent to which the app can monitor the vehicle's activities.

"Cars are getting too damn smart these days," he concluded.

The man, who drives a 2024 Model Y, has not yet been caught due to the car's features. However, he felt compelled to share his discovery on the 'r/adultery' subreddit to caution others who might require a higher level of discretion. When asked if he was one such individual, he responded, "I don’t need it the same way I need water to drink, food to eat and air to breathe, but looking back I would prefer it."

The Tesla app, which can be integrated with the driver's phone, allows for a range of functions. It enables the driver to track the car's location, unlock the car remotely, and even put it in 'sentry mode,' which activates internal and external cameras. The app also provides visibility into the car's climate control system, potentially revealing if a specific seat's heating or air conditioning is being used.

This is not the first time Tesla's tech-heavy vehicles have raised privacy concerns. Last year, the company faced criticism when it was revealed that the cars' external cameras could record video in people's garages while the vehicle was parked and charging. Employees reportedly shared these videos amongst themselves, often receiving rewards for the most amusing clips.

The man's post sparked a lively discussion on how to successfully conduct an affair with or without a Tesla. Some users suggested simple solutions like taking public transportation or using ride-sharing services, while others proposed more tech-savvy strategies, viewing the car's surveillance technology as a potential advantage for a would-be adulterer.

However, not all comments were solution-oriented. One user responded, "That is YOUR problem entirely for choosing to imprison yourself with an easily surveillable vehicle."

When asked if he had taken risks with the car that he wouldn't have if he'd known he'd get caught, the man told DailyMail.com, "I noticed before I got that far." Regarding the responses from other Reddit users, he said, "It’s the internet and especially Reddit so people are going to be more critical."
