Maser had been coaching at Sacred Heart Academy, an all-girls Catholic institution in Hempstead, New York, and B&B Volleyball, a club team based in Long Island. The alleged victim was a player on both teams.
Following the rape allegations, Maser was dismissed from both Sacred Heart Academy and B&B Volleyball. As reported by the New York Daily News, B&B Volleyball communicated to parents that they had become aware of an "inappropriate sexual relationship between an adult who coached for B&B Volleyball and one of our players." Sacred Heart officials promptly contacted authorities upon learning of the accusations.
Maser was apprehended at his Syosset residence by Special Victims Squad officers last Thursday. The criminal complaint against him included two counts of third-degree rape, two counts of criminal sex act, and endangering the welfare of a child. The police allege that Maser raped a 15-year-old girl at least twice in his Jeep in Albertson on February 7 and March 7.
