Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) voiced his apprehension on Sunday about the potential threat of a terrorist attack on American soil by ISIS-K, the Afghanistan branch of the infamous terrorist group.

During a Fox News interview, when questioned about the likelihood of such an attack, Cotton responded, "Well I am very worried about it.”

As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Cotton emphasized that one does not need classified intelligence to understand the severity of the situation. He quoted the commanding general of the US force in the Middle East, saying, "'In as little as six months you could have an attack like this.' It turned out to be about six days."

While Cotton acknowledged that it might take longer for ISIS-K to execute an attack against the American homeland or the western hemisphere, he expressed deep concern for the millions of Americans residing or traveling abroad, particularly in Europe and Asia. He stated, "I'm deeply worried that ISIS from Afghanistan will end up targeting Americans sooner rather than later."

ISIS-K, which claimed responsibility for the recent Moscow terrorist attack that resulted in over 137 fatalities, was also behind the 2021 suicide bombing in Kabul that claimed the lives of 13 US troops. Fox News host Shannon Bream highlighted this fact during the interview with Senator Cotton.

Cotton further criticized President Biden's handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal, linking it to the recent attack at the Crocus City Hall concert in Moscow. He described the incident as "the unfortunate echo of President Biden's chaotic and disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan."

Despite both being notorious for their brutality, ISIS-K and the Taliban have a history of conflict, with the former viewing the latter as insufficiently devout in their adherence to Islam. This was further evidenced when the organization released body cam footage of the Moscow attack, where one gunman can be heard proclaiming, "The infidels will be defeated, God willing. God is great. The infidels will be defeated. We went out for the sake of God and to seek His religion."
