A 40-year-old drama teacher from California, Stacey Michelle Walker, is facing multiple felony charges following allegations of a prolonged sexual relationship with a female student, who was 15 at the time the relationship began, according to San Diego Police.

The police department issued a press release stating that Walker, a teacher at Mt. Carmel High School, initiated conversations of a sexual nature with the underage student in 2017. "The victim and suspect then exchanged numerous photographs, videos and explicit text messages. Walker also met with the victim several times and engaged in various sex acts. The sexual assaults continued until after the victim turned 18-years-old [in 2019]," the press release detailed.

When queried about the location of these encounters, Lt. Dan Sayasane informed the San Diego Tribune that the incidents "occurred at varying locations." The victim, now an adult, reported the abuse on July 31, prompting the police investigation. Sayasane also revealed that the department is actively seeking any additional victims.

Walker is facing 17 charges, including sodomy, oral copulation, and luring a minor for a sex offense, as per jail records at Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility. She was incarcerated on March 20, with bail set at $400,000.

Walker, a former student of Mt. Carmel High School, taught tech and drama, and directed school plays and musicals. In a 2015 student article in the school's newspaper, she expressed her joy at returning to her alma mater, stating, "I love being back, I love being a Sundevil again."

The Poway Unified School District informed the Tribune that Walker was placed on leave following the police's notification of the allegations in August. The school has since initiated an independent investigation, according to spokesperson Christine Paik.

Principal Yael Bozzay assured parents in an email that the school was fully cooperating with investigators and that Walker had not taught at Mt. Carmel High this year. "We have a strong 'Sundevil Way' culture among our students, staff and families because of the respect and care that we share for one another," Bozzay wrote. "This includes fostering trust and ensuring safety for all students, which is of the utmost importance."
