In a landmark move, New York Attorney General Letitia James has initiated proceedings to seize former President Donald Trump's golf course and private estate in Seven Springs, north of Manhattan.

This action follows a ruling by New York Judge Arthur Engoron, who found Trump guilty in a civil fraud lawsuit and ordered him to pay $464 million in disgorgement and interest.

James has filed judgments in Westchester County, marking the first step in the state's effort to seize Trump's assets. This move challenges Trump's assertion that he is unable to secure a bond to cover the hefty sum. In response, James has threatened to seize his assets.

In a legal filing on Wednesday, a lawyer representing James argued that the court should dismiss Trump's "extraordinary request" to appeal without posting the full amount. Trump has labeled the bond as "practically impossible" to pay.

State attorneys lodged the judgments with the Westchester County clerk's office on March 6, according to CNN. The news outlet explained, "Entering a judgment would be the first step a creditor would take to attempt to recover property. Additional steps, such as putting liens on assets or moving to foreclose on properties, or taking other actions in court would follow, if the asset is going to be seized."

In New York City, where Trump owns several properties, including Trump Tower, his penthouse at Trump Tower, 40 Wall Street, his hotel adjacent to Central Park, and multiple apartment complexes, a judgment has already been filed.

Trump now has a four-day window to comply with the ruling, or convince an appeals court to allow him to post a reduced sum or delay posting the money until after the appeal.

Trump's attorney, Chris Kise, criticized the Attorney General's filing as a "brazen abuse of power." Kise stated, "The Attorney General's latest filing demonstrates her continued willingness to misrepresent the facts and misconstrue applicable law in her political crusade against President Trump. Today's missive does not even bother to cite New York case law."

In February, Judge Engoron found Trump guilty of allegedly inflating his real estate assets, thereby exaggerating his wealth. He ordered Trump to pay $464 million in disgorgement and interest and imposed a three-year ban on Trump's ability to run any New York-based corporation. Trump's sons, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., each received a $4 million fine and a two-year ban.

Despite these penalties, no banks that loaned money to Trump reported any damages. The Associated Press noted that the case is unique in 70 years of case law, with one real estate lawyer telling the outlet that it "sets a horrible precedent."

Former GOP primary candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has called for James to be disbarred, arguing that her actions against Trump are excessive and unjust. He stated, “The Letitia James crusade against Donald Trump is disgusting and it is a threat to every American. The Eighth Amendment prevents the imposition of excessive bail, or excessive fines. And if there's ever an example, that means that to a tee, it’s the bond that’s been demanded of Donald Trump in this disgusting New York Letitia James-led prosecution."

Trump has criticized James’ demand that he pay the bond before appealing the New York decision, saying, "If I sold assets, and then won the Appeal, the assets would be forever gone. Also, putting up money before an Appeal is VERY EXPENSIVE. When I win the Appeal, all of that money is gone, and I would have done nothing wrong. The Crooked Judge, who has already been overturned 4 times on this case (a record!), fully understands this. He gave us a demand which he knows is impossible to do."
