Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s presidential campaign is grappling with a $1.4 million debt owed to a private security firm, Gavin De Becker and Associates, amid the Biden administration's consistent refusal to grant him Secret Service protection.

The Kennedy campaign's recent filing with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) on Wednesday revealed that it raised $3.1 million in February, but its expenditure for the same month was a close $2.8 million. This figure does not account for the $1.4 million debt to the private security firm owned by Gavin De Becker, a security specialist and a close associate of Kennedy, as reported by Politico.

Excluding the outstanding debt, the campaign disbursed slightly over $200,000 in February for security services and associated travel expenses. This has escalated the total payment to Gavin de Becker & Associates to over $2 million.

Simultaneously, De Becker has generously contributed millions to the pro-Kennedy super PAC American Values 2024, in what he describes as both donations and "bridge funding". A separate FEC filing by the political action committee on Wednesday disclosed that De Becker made an additional donation of $4 million last month, which constitutes nearly the entire $4.1 million that American Values 2024 reported raising in February.

De Becker has emerged as the super PAC's most substantial donor, second only to Republican mega-donor Tim Mellon, according to Politico.

Despite amassing nearly $28 million since launching his presidential campaign in April 2023, Kennedy's campaign has been a heavy spender. As of the end of February, the campaign reported having $5 million in cash on hand. In contrast, Biden's campaign reported a cash reserve of $71 million, and former President Trump's campaign reported $33.5 million, as per Wednesday's FEC filings.

Kennedy has criticized Biden for denying at least three requests for U.S. Secret Service protection during his 2024 campaign trail. His father, former U.S. senator, U.S. Attorney General, and presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, was assassinated in 1968, and his uncle, former President Kennedy, was assassinated in 1963.

In December, Biden's Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas stated that Secret Service protection for Kennedy "is not warranted at this time," according to a letter obtained by Deseret News. Kennedy claims that this decision was made despite several documented death threats against him.

In a disturbing incident in late October, a man named Jonathan Macht was arrested twice in a single day for trespassing at Kennedy's residence. Macht was mentioned in a Secret Service risk assessment as part of Kennedy's initial request for protection in June, sources informed Fox News Digital. The assessment identified Kennedy as being at an elevated risk, yet the request for protection from the Democratic-turned-independent presidential candidate was still rejected by Homeland Security.
