Lemon disclosed the cancellation of a deal for his show to be aired on X, previously known as Twitter, on March 13. During his conversation with podcast host Kara Swisher, Lemon inquired whether Musk felt uneasy being interviewed by a gay, black individual.
"People have been asking me what I meant when I mentioned that he did not appreciate answering questions or being held accountable by individuals like me, and some interpreted it as a racial issue," Lemon explained to Swisher. "I was referring to someone with a different perspective. However, given the raised concerns, and your comments, do you believe he was uncomfortable? I was hesitant to broach this topic. Do you think he was uncomfortable facing a gay, black man?"

Swisher responded, "Probably more gay than black, I would assume. I hate to say that. But I'm not sure. I don't know."
"I believe he dislikes being under anyone else's control, regardless of who it is," Swisher added. "I don't think he is particularly fond of Joe Biden, either."

Notably, Musk had extended an invitation to Lemon to host a show on X in May 2023, following Lemon's departure from CNN the previous month.
Lemon had previously faced criticism in February 2023 for his remarks about former Republican Governor Nikki Haley of South Carolina, suggesting she was no longer at her peak.
