The comments were made during a campaign event in Nebraska, as reported by Bloomberg.
Emhoff's criticism was in response to Trump's interview with conservative radio host Sebastian Gorka, in which Trump claimed that Democrats "hate Israel" and that Jewish voters who support Democrats are against their own religion. The conversation with Gorka revolved around the alleged disdain top Democrats have for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, amid escalating tensions between President Biden and Israel's leader over the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
In a post on X, a platform that replaced Twitter, Emhoff accused the former president of using stereotypes to belittle Jewish Americans. He cited Trump's controversial comments about the Neo-Nazis in Charlottesville, referring to them as "very fine people," and allegations from Trump's former Chief of Staff that he had even praised Adolf Hitler. Emhoff concluded his post by stating, "This hateful and antisemitic rhetoric is toxic. Donald Trump is the one who should be ashamed."

The Second Gentleman's comments came after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) criticized Netanyahu for losing his way amidst his political and legal struggles and his handling of Israel's war against Hamas. Emhoff, a Jewish leader within the Biden administration, has been vocal about the rise of antisemitism since the invasion of Israel by Hamas on October 7. Earlier this year, he attended the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where he emphasized the Biden-Harris administration's commitment to combating the global rise of Antisemitism, Islamophobia, and all forms of hate.

Emhoff's and Trump's comments emerged shortly after Trump secured the Republican Party's presidential nomination, setting the stage for a potential rematch with Biden, the Democratic Party's nominee. Throughout the conflict, Trump has consistently portrayed himself as a staunch supporter of Israel's right to self-defense. Conversely, Biden has been increasingly outspoken about how Israel should conduct its counteroffensive.
TRUMP READY TO DEBATE BIDEN 'ANYWHERE, ANYTIME, ANYPLACE,' BUT WILL IT HAPPEN?
In a recent conversation with Netanyahu, Biden reiterated U.S. support for Israel's efforts to defeat Hamas, but suggested that the country needs to do so in a "coherent and sustainable" manner. This marked the first discussion between the two leaders since Biden criticized Netanyahu for harming Israel, further escalating tensions.
