In the early hours of Sunday, a shooting incident in Washington, DC, left two individuals dead and five injured, with the suspect still at large.

The incident occurred in the vicinity of the Kennedy Recreation Center, near Mt. Vernon Square, according to local law enforcement.

The suspect, described as an average-built black man dressed in light pants and a blue shirt, reportedly fled the scene on foot. "We're asking anyone who may have any information related to this incident or may have witnessed it, to contact the Metropolitan Police Department," stated Executive Assistant Chief Jeffrey Carrol during a Sunday morning press conference.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered six adults with gunshot wounds. Two of the victims, identified as 32-year-old Anthony Brown of Southeast, D.C., and 32-year-old Jay Lucks of Baltimore, Md., were pronounced dead at the scene. According to police department crime statistics, there has been a 35 percent surge in homicides this year compared to the same period in 2023. In 2023, the city recorded a total of 274 homicides, marking a 35 percent increase from the previous year.
