In a recent interview with former CNN host Don Lemon, tech titan Elon Musk expressed his views on race and gender politics, leading to a heated exchange that ultimately resulted in Musk severing ties with Lemon's show.

The interview, which marked the debut episode of "The Don Lemon Show," was released on Monday.

The conversation between Musk and Lemon took a contentious turn when the topic of identity politics was broached. Lemon explained to Musk that the term "woke" originally signified "being aware of inequities in society and being aware of facts and history." Musk conceded that this definition was "fine," but he countered that "trying to make everything a race issue" is "corrosive to society."

The discussion escalated when Lemon brought up the subject of slavery. Musk responded by urging Americans to "look to the future rather than the past." He argued, "We are all descended from slaves," and advocated for treating everyone "according to just who they are as an individual."

Musk posed a question to Lemon, asking, "What future do we want? Is this something we want to make, fight about, constant dialogue forever? Or do we wanna, do we wanna say, let’s just move on and treat everyone, you know, according to just who they are as an individual."

Lemon agreed with Musk's idealistic view but pointed out that the reality does not align with this vision. "I agree with you on that. That’s the ideal. But what the evidence shows is that that’s not what’s actually in practice," Lemon said.

Musk responded by stating, "I think we’re doing better than anywhere else," to which Lemon agreed. However, Lemon pointed out that Musk's perspective "doesn’t mean a lot to a whole lot of people who aren’t able to take advantage of the opportunities that you were able to take advantage of just because of the color of your skin."

Musk's assertion that some people use race and gender to position themselves as "self-described victims" sparked a rebuke from Lemon. He described Musk's stance as "insulting" and emphasized the importance of acknowledging historical injustices.

Lemon said, "I’ve also been discriminated against, and I know that I have. And I know that that’s real. And for someone to say that that isn’t happening and I should not, I should just move forward and not think about that and ignore the past is insulting."

Musk retorted, "Don, you keep putting words in my mouth. I’m not saying, I’m saying that we want to. We as a country should move beyond questions of race and gender. And we should treat people like individuals and base our opinions on their character and their skills."

The interview, which was intended to be a platform for dialogue, ended up straining the relationship between Musk and Lemon, leading to the cancellation of their partnership.
