The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has condemned the alleged sexual assault of a disabled 15-year-old girl by a Haitian migrant, terming the act as "heinous."

The accused, Cory Alvarez, a 26-year-old Haitian national, is currently facing charges for the alleged crime that took place in a Massachusetts hotel that provides accommodation to migrants.

Alvarez, who arrived in the U.S. last summer, was part of President Biden’s CHNV parole program, a policy that has sparked controversy. Under this initiative, up to 30,000 individuals from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela are permitted to enter the U.S. each month. These individuals are granted two years of humanitarian parole, which enables them to seek employment in the U.S.

The administration has assured that these individuals undergo thorough screening and vetting against national security and public safety databases. Any individual identified as a potential threat to national or public safety is denied entry and removed. As per the policy, the parolees must have a U.S.-based financial supporter and are responsible for their own travel arrangements.

The CHNV parole program was initially introduced for Venezuelans in October 2022. It allowed a limited number of individuals to fly directly into the U.S., provided they had not entered illegally, had a sponsor in the U.S., and passed certain checks. The program was expanded in January 2023 to include Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Cubans. The expansion also included the provision for migrants to receive work permits and a two-year authorization to live in the U.S.

The incident involving Alvarez took place at the Comfort Inn in Rockland, Mass., a hotel participating in a state and federal program to house migrant families. Alvarez was a resident at the hotel. Following the incident, Alvarez appeared before a Hingham District Court judge and pleaded not guilty to a single count of aggravated rape of a child.

A DHS spokesperson, while refraining from commenting on the ongoing criminal proceedings, told Fox News, "The alleged crime is heinous, individuals should be held responsible to the fullest extent under the law."
