Rachael Rollins, a former U.S. Attorney who was once a top candidate endorsed by President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party, is facing further legal troubles.

Rollins, who was forced to resign from her position as a U.S. attorney for Massachusetts in May last year following a corruption investigation by the Department of Justice (DOJ), has now lost her law license, according to WBUR.

Rollins's journey began on a promising note in July 2021 when she was nominated for the position by President Biden and his Democratic colleagues. Democratic senators Ed Markey and Elizabeth Warren lauded Rollins as an excellent choice, stating, "District Attorney Rollins is a national leader on transforming the criminal justice system and shifting away from an approach based on punishment and penalization to one that combats the root causes of injustice, whether it be poverty, substance use, or racial disparity," as reported by the Boston Globe in 2021.

The media also advocated for Rollins, a left-wing candidate, to be promoted to the Massachusetts DA's office. The Los Angeles Times' editorial board wrote, "Rollins has been among President Biden’s smartest appointments, and if her nomination is finally approved in the Senate she would become the top federal prosecutor in Massachusetts, handling cases involving national security, white-collar crime, public corruption, cybercrime, gang violence and civil rights violations."

However, just two years later, Rollins found herself resigning in disgrace after the DOJ disclosed "hundreds of pages" of allegations that she "abused her authority as U.S. attorney," as noted by WBUR. In one instance, she was accused of deliberately leaking privileged Justice Department information to aid Democrat Ricardo Arroyo in his bid for Suffolk County district attorney. Despite this, Arroyo lost to his opponent, Kevin Hayden.

Fox News reported that the DOJ accused Rollins of lying to federal investigators about her actions. The DOJ stated that Rollins "falsely testified under oath during her OIG interview when she denied that she was the federal law enforcement source that provided nonpublic, sensitive DOJ information to the Herald reporter about a possible Hayden criminal investigation." The U.S. Office of Special Counsel described Rollins' actions as "an extraordinary abuse of her power," according to a separate WBUR report.

Rollins was initially celebrated by Democrats for her refusal to prosecute most criminals that came through her office as the Suffolk County DA, a stance aligned with the concept of "social justice." However, this led to a contentious confirmation process, with the U.S. Senate split 50-50. Vice President Kamala Harris cast the deciding vote in favor of Rollins.

Despite her initial promise, Rollins' four-year term barely lasted two years following the DOJ's revelation of a long list of corrupt practices they accused her of committing. Even so, Biden's DOJ chose not to prosecute Rollins after she agreed to resign from the AG's office.

This did not prevent the Massachusetts Office of Bar Counsel from reviewing her case. The state's Board of Bar Overseers has now recommended that Rollins' license to practice law be suspended for nonpayment of fees, a decision approved by the state Supreme Judicial Court, as noted by WBUR.

Despite her numerous ethics violations, Rollins, a prosecutor backed by George Soros, managed to secure a position as the special projects administrator at Roxbury Community College, earning $96,000 a year. This raises questions about the consequences faced by Democratic officials involved in corruption scandals.
