In an unsettling revelation, a close confidante of John Barnett, a former Boeing employee and whistleblower, has claimed that Barnett had foreseen his own death, possibly disguised as a suicide.

This claim was made during a telephonic interview with ABC News 4 that was broadcast on Thursday.

Jennifer, identified as a close friend of Barnett, shared with ABC News 4, "He wasn't worried about his safety. I asked him if he was scared, and he responded, 'Nah, I ain't scared, but if anything happens to me, it's not suicide.' I am certain he didn't commit suicide. He cherished life, his family, and his brothers too much to put them through the pain they are experiencing now."

When asked by Anne Emerson of ABC News 4 if Barnett had explicitly instructed her not to believe in his suicide, Jennifer confirmed, "Yes. He had too much to live for, too many plans and things he wanted to do."

Jennifer further speculated on the circumstances of Barnett's death, stating, "I think someone wanted to silence him and didn't want any repercussions, so they made it look like a suicide. Money can buy anything these days, and there's a lot of evil in this world."

Jennifer's relationship with Barnett was rooted in a long-standing friendship between their mothers. She revealed that Barnett had recently visited her when she needed assistance and they had discussed his impending deposition against Boeing in Charleston, North Carolina. In his complaint against Boeing, Barnett had reportedly accused the company of retaliating against him for exposing allegedly unsafe practices.

Barnett, who had served as a quality manager at Boeing's North Charleston plant from 2010 to 2017, was found dead in his truck, with what the Charleston County Coroner's Office described as an "apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound." He had been with Boeing for 32 years before retiring to care for his mother in Louisiana, as reported by the British Broadcasting Corporation.

Robert Turkewitz, Barnett's attorney, who had been representing him since 2017 when he first raised concerns about Boeing's safety issues, told ABC News 4 that Barnett was "in good spirits the night before his unexpected death" and was eagerly anticipating reuniting with his family in Louisiana.

Turkewitz, who had tried to contact Barnett repeatedly on the morning of his death, had asked the hotel staff to check if his truck was still there. The staff reportedly responded that they would need to call emergency services.

Turkewitz described Barnett's death as "a huge loss," stating, "John was a brave, honest man of the highest integrity. He had the courage to do the right thing. It's cost him the ultimate price. So, did he have a target on him? I don't know the answer to that. But I know that there are people who are angry at him for blowing the whistle."

The Charleston police reportedly found a note and a gun at the scene. Turkewitz urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation.

Despite the tragic turn of events, Barnett's legal team is reportedly preparing for his trial against Boeing in June, possibly representing Barnett's estate.
