Lara Trump, the newly appointed co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), declared on Wednesday that the GOP had experienced its "largest digital fundraising weekend since 2020."

The announcement was made via a post on X, where she expressed her pride in the achievement and hinted at more to come, stating, "we are just getting started!"

Although the exact amount raised was not disclosed, the news comes as a welcome relief for the financially beleaguered GOP. The party's former chair, Ronna McDaniel, had previously been criticized for extravagant spending while achieving limited electoral success.

In a conversation with Newsmax, Lara Trump attributed the surge in donations to the recent change in the RNC's leadership. "I think that the change in leadership at the RNC has really inspired a lot of people to give. This past weekend we had our best fundraising weekend since 2020," she said. She further added that the public recognizes the importance of the upcoming election and expressed confidence in the new team, which includes herself as co-chair and Michael Whatley as chairman.

Trump revealed that she had received numerous phone calls from individuals wishing to make "maxed out" contributions to the committee within a 36-hour period. This follows a significant restructuring at the RNC, which saw over 60 employees dismissed after the appointment of co-chairs Lara Trump and Michael Whatley.

Both Lara Trump and Whatley were personally selected by former President Donald Trump to lead the party, following the urging of McDaniel to step aside. This came amidst growing concerns that McDaniel was not enthusiastic about the possibility of Donald Trump securing the party's presidential nomination for a second term.

In the wake of Joe Biden and Donald Trump becoming the presumptive nominees for their respective parties on Tuesday evening, Lara Trump called on Republicans to employ "legal ballot harvesting" as a strategy to defeat Democrats in the November elections.

"We’ve been playing checkers, and the Democrats have been playing chess. Unfortunately, we don’t have one day of voting, we don’t have paper ballots, we don’t have voter ID everywhere. So we have to play the hand that we’re dealt," she said. She emphasized the need for "legal ballot harvesting," a tactic she claimed had never been used by the RNC but promised would be a significant part of their strategy.

She further elaborated on the party's plans for Election Day, stating, "it’s not just about having poll watchers. It’s about having trained poll watchers and lawyers at locations around the country as necessary. And these are people who will be trained and able to physically count how many ballots are coming in. And how many ballots are going out."
