The Republican National Committee (RNC) is undergoing a significant reshuffle under the leadership of former President Donald Trump, with approximately 60 officials being asked to step down, according to a senior RNC source who spoke to Fox News.

The affected individuals are primarily from the committee's communications, data, and political departments, including several senior staff members.

This development comes shortly after the Trump campaign assumed operational control over the RNC on Monday. The move is part of a broader strategy to integrate elements of the RNC with the Trump 2024 presidential campaign.

The RNC's new leadership, handpicked by Trump, includes Michael Whatley, a Trump ally and North Carolina GOP chair, and Lara Trump, Trump's daughter-in-law. Both were unanimously confirmed as RNC chair and co-chair, respectively, during a general session in Houston, Texas, on Friday.

Whatley, who previously served as the RNC's general counsel, succeeds Ronna McDaniel, a Trump appointee who led the national party committee following Trump's 2016 presidential victory. McDaniel's departure was precipitated by Trump's repeated calls for changes within the committee, citing underwhelming fundraising efforts last year and his opposition to the RNC's presidential primary debates.

In his address to committee members on Friday, Whatley pledged to "work hand in glove with President Trump’s campaign." Trump also appointed campaign advisor Chris LaCivita as RNC chief of staff. LaCivita, a seasoned Republican strategist and RNC veteran, will maintain his role as a key advisor for Trump's 2024 presidential campaign.

"The RNC today. It’s not going to look the same next week. There’s obviously going to be changes," LaCivita told reporters on Friday, without providing further details.

The restructuring of the RNC coincides with Trump's victories in 14 of the 15 GOP primaries and caucuses on Super Tuesday, bringing him closer to securing the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. This development followed the withdrawal of Trump's last competitor for the nomination, former U.N. ambassador and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.

Trump is anticipated to officially secure the nomination on Tuesday, as four more states hold primaries and caucuses.

The RNC's overhaul has not been without controversy. A former RNC official, who requested anonymity, criticized the timing of the layoffs, stating, "Slashing the committee as the general election gets underway seems crazy." Alex Floyd, the rapid response director for the Democratic National Committee, also expressed concern, stating that "firing nearly one-third of your staff in a frantic mass ideological purge less than eight months before a presidential election is typically not a good sign for a political party."
