The President mistakenly referred to Riley during his speech about the tragic death of University of Georgia student, Laken Riley.
Journalist Ann Vandersteel took to X to express her shock at the President's error. "BREAKING: Biden informs former NFL player Lincoln Riley's shocked parents that he has died at the hands of an illegal," Vandersteel posted. She quickly clarified the mistake, stating, "LINCOLN Riley is still very much alive. LAKEN Riley is dead, murdered by one of Biden's ILLEGALS."

The NFL memes account joined in the confusion, posting images of the USC coach with a caption reading, "Still can’t believe he’s gone," accompanied by a broken heart emoji.

The Woke Messiah, another social media user, chimed in, "I hope that everyone is thinking about @LincolnRiley after Joe Biden just announced during the SOTU that he was recently killed by an illegal immigrant." The user added, "The USC Football team could all use our support during this difficult time."

Chance McClain also expressed concern, tweeting, "Hey @LincolnRiley checking on ya man I was listening to the state of the union and…it didn’t sound good."

The mix-up occurred during the State of the Union address when Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-GA) urged President Biden to acknowledge the murder of 22-year-old Laken Riley by Venezuelan illegal immigrant Jose Ibarra. Green demanded from the audience, "Say her name!"

Biden eventually complied, but mistakenly said, "Lincoln Riley," adding, "Lincoln Riley, an innocent young woman who was killed by an illegal.”
The following day, Allyson Phillips, Laken Riley's mother, criticized the President for his error. "Biden does not even KNOW my child's name - it (sic) pathetic!" she wrote on Facebook. "If you are going to say her name (even when forced to do so) at least say the right name!"
Interestingly, several Democrats criticized President Biden's use of the term "illegal," rather than addressing his misnaming of the victim or acknowledging the tragic circumstances of her murder.
