In a statement released on Wednesday, McConnell, a Republican from Kentucky, stated, "It is abundantly clear that former President Trump has earned the requisite support of Republican voters to be our nominee for President of the United States." McConnell further added, "It should come as no surprise that as nominee, he will have my support."
Highlighting their past collaborations, McConnell emphasized the achievements made during Trump's presidency, such as tax reform and reshaping the federal judiciary, particularly the Supreme Court. McConnell expressed optimism about the future, stating, "I look forward to the opportunity of switching from playing defense against the terrible policies the Biden administration has pursued to a sustained offense geared towards making a real difference in improving the lives of the American people."

McConnell's endorsement came shortly after former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley, who was a significant contender in the GOP primary race, announced the suspension of her campaign. Notably, Haley refrained from endorsing Trump in her statement regarding the halt of her campaign.
