A parent and a minor were apprehended in Haines City, Florida, on Friday, following their involvement in a physical dispute at a school bus stop, as reported by local law enforcement.

The Haines City Police Department confirmed the arrest of 28-year-old Taityana D. Duffy, who now faces charges of battery and contributing to the delinquency of a dependent. The minor, whose identity remains undisclosed, has also been charged with battery.

The incident began as a verbal disagreement between two minors awaiting their school bus. However, the situation rapidly escalated into a physical altercation, with an adult relative of one of the minors allegedly instigating the fight.

Upon receiving reports of the dispute, officers arrived at the scene to find multiple individuals embroiled in what was described as a "complex situation." A preliminary investigation revealed that the initial verbal disagreement had turned physical, with one student assaulting the other.

The police department made public a video of the altercation on Facebook on Tuesday, recorded by a bystander. The footage depicts a minor pushing another, as several people, including adults, approach them at the bus stop. As the video continues, a female minor is seen repeatedly striking another female's head. When a bystander attempts to intervene, Duffy, engrossed in her cellphone, begins yelling at the individual, further inciting her daughter during the fight. The bystander attempts to intervene once more, only to be struck by Duffy.

Ultimately, Duffy and the minor were arrested. "The involvement of an adult, in encouraging, and participating in a teenage fight at a bus stop is unacceptable and deeply concerning," stated Haines City Police Chief Goreck. "This behavior not only escalates violence but also fails our community's expectation of an adult’s responsibility to help safeguard our children. Our department is taking this matter seriously and will act to prevent such incidents in the future."
