Clinton emphasized the importance of safeguarding democracy, which she believes is under threat from Trump's authoritarian tendencies.
Clinton recounted a conversation she had, stating, "Somebody the other day said to me… 'Well, but, you know, Joe Biden's old.' I said, 'You know what, Joe Biden is old. Let's go ahead and accept the reality. Joe Biden is old.'" She went on to contrast the two potential candidates, both of whom are advanced in age, but with stark differences in their approach to governance and democracy.
"We have a contest between one candidate who's old, but who's done an effective job and doesn't threaten our democracy. And we have another candidate who is old, barely makes sense when he talks, is dangerous, and threatens our democracy," Clinton stated.

She further urged listeners to choose wisely between the two older candidates, emphasizing the importance of preserving freedom, the rule of law, and protection for people's fundamental rights. Clinton refrained from commenting on Biden's mental capacity, instead suggesting that it was Trump who exhibited signs of memory issues.

Clinton questioned, "Why would we say, ‘Oh, you know what? Yeah, he's still getting things done and it's going to improve my life and the life of my children and grandchildren, but he's just too old and I don't like seeing somebody old?'" She then pointed out Trump's incoherent rants and his confusion about his political opponent, stating, "He constantly talks about Barack Obama being his opponent. Last I checked, that wasn't what was happening."

Clinton also addressed the question of whether concerns over Biden's age were a veiled reluctance to see a female President, with Vice President Kamala Harris being next in line. "It's a challenge for a number of Americans to think of a woman as being President, and then, if the woman is also a woman of color and the daughter of immigrants, you know, that might make it even more of a challenge," she said. However, she believes that Americans' apprehension is more about age than gender or race.
A recent poll conducted by the New York Times and Siena College revealed that 61% of respondents who voted for Biden in 2020 agreed with the statement "Joe Biden is just too old to be an effective President."
