In a recent incident at the Harvard Kennedy School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Democratic Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia found himself in a heated confrontation with a climate activist.

The incident, which took place on Friday, was captured on video and shared on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, by the climate change group Climate Defiance.

The video shows the activist accusing Senator Manchin of betraying future generations for personal gain. "Joe Manchin, you sold our futures and got rich doing it," the protester declared, using explicit language to express his outrage. The senator immediately rose from his seat and moved towards the activist, but was intercepted by another individual.

The activist continued to accuse Manchin of selling out future generations before being pushed to the ground. The video then cuts to Manchin offering to sit down and discuss the matter with the activists. However, one activist refused, stating, "You've received more funding from fossil fuels than any other senator."

Another activist accused Manchin of profiting from his position, saying, "You've made millions, you've made millions out of your position. You drive a Maserati." Manchin responded with a surprised, "Oh my goodness."

The activists focused their questioning on Manchin's role in the Mountain Valley Pipeline. The senator had played a significant part in securing the pipeline through the Fiscal Responsibility Act, even filing his own amicus brief in the Supreme Court case last year. When asked directly by an activist whether he believed people supported the pipeline, Manchin began to explain his position but was interrupted by the activist who asserted, "They don't support it."

The activists then began chanting, "Not our futures, not your profits" as Manchin shook hands with individuals before appearing to leave the event.

Harvard University released a statement regarding the incident, stating, "Earlier today, protesters disrupted for a few minutes an IOP study group in which Senator Joe Manchin was the guest speaker." The statement further explained that a Harvard University police officer ordered the protesters to leave the Kennedy School campus, and they complied. The incident is currently under review by the Harvard University Police Department and the Kennedy School.

Fox News Digital reached out to Manchin's office, the Harvard Police Department, the Kennedy Institute of Politics, and Climate Defiance for additional comments.

Manchin was scheduled to appear alongside Resident Fellow Alison King at the Kennedy School on Friday to discuss various topics, including his potential endorsements for the 2024 election, according to the event's promotional material.

Climate Defiance had previously confronted Manchin in January, surrounding him in New Hampshire to challenge him on energy and climate policy. The group claimed to have cornered Manchin, forcing him to take refuge in an "old" building in Goffstown, New Hampshire. This confrontation occurred shortly after Manchin addressed the New Hampshire Institute of Politics’ "Politics & Eggs" forum, a popular event for presidential candidates.

Last month, Manchin quashed speculation about a potential presidential run, stating during a speech at West Virginia University that he would "not be seeking a third-party run, I will not be involved in a presidential run." He made this announcement as part of his "listening tour" with his daughter's campaign group "Americans Together," a movement that identifies as the "moderate majority" rejecting "extremism in politics."

Manchin, who has yet to endorse President Joe Biden as of late February, expressed reservations about Biden's increasingly polarizing policies. He stated, "I’ve had this conversation with him and with his people that he’s gone too far to the left. They’ve pushed him, and pulled him, and whatever. But that’s not where America is. That’s not where our country is."
