Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley's political campaign has reportedly attracted thousands of donors who previously supported President Joe Biden's 2020 campaign, according to Politico.

The Republican candidate experienced her most lucrative fundraising month in January, amassing $11.5 million and commencing February with nearly $13 million in the bank.

Haley's campaign has reportedly drawn over 5,200 former Biden donors, with around 1,600 contributing over half a million dollars collectively in January, as per Politico's analysis of the Federal Election Commission (FEC) report filed by the candidate on Tuesday evening.

The crossover of donors is considered noteworthy, given that Haley is vying for the Republican nomination to potentially challenge Biden in the upcoming general election. However, Politico estimates that the majority of Haley's financial backing still originates from Republican supporters.

In January, over 3,000 large-dollar donors who previously supported former President Donald Trump in 2020 contributed to Haley's campaign, along with approximately 10,000 to date. The FEC report also revealed that Haley's campaign expended $13.1 million in January, with over 55,000 large-dollar donors (those contributing a minimum of $200) supporting her campaign, totaling 123,000 for this election cycle.

In comparison, Trump's campaign raised $8.8 million in January, while Biden's campaign raised $15.7 million. Trump entered February with $30.5 million, compared to Biden's $56 million. However, Trump's campaign outspent Biden's by approximately $5.8 million.

In the New Hampshire primary held on January 23, Haley secured the majority of support from voters identifying as moderate or liberal. She also garnered 86% of support from self-identified Democrats, compared to only 25% from self-identified Republicans.

South Carolina's primary system allows Democrats to participate in the Republican primary, as the state does not register voters by party affiliation. Ahead of her home state primary on Saturday, Haley is trailing Trump by approximately 25 points in the RealClearPolitics (RCP) average.

Trump has already claimed victories in Iowa, New Hampshire, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Nevada. Haley finished third in Iowa, second in New Hampshire and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and lost to the "None of The Above" option in Nevada's primary, where she did not compete for delegates.

In a potential head-to-head matchup, the former president leads Biden by 1.2 points in the RCP average, while Haley currently holds a 3.6 point advantage.
