In a recent press conference, Senator John Fetterman, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, expressed his strong disapproval of pro-Palestinian protesters demanding a cease-fire.

The conference, attended by a bipartisan group of lawmakers from both the House and Senate, as well as Amir Ohana, the Speaker of the Israeli Knesset, was held in solidarity with the families of Israeli hostages held by Hamas.

Fetterman, expressing his frustration, stated, "I think I've met with six, six family victim groups during all of this. And, you know, that should have stopped because everyone should have been home long ago." He questioned the protesters' motives, asking, "Why aren't you protesting to bring them all home right now? Why aren't you demanding that Hamas surrenders as well?"

While Fetterman acknowledged the need to end the "suffering and the death of innocent Palestinians and Israelis," he argued that peace would remain elusive as long as Hamas continues to exist. He referred to the October 7 incident where Hamas invaded Israel, resulting in the death of over 1,200 individuals. "I support a two-state solution as well. But that is meaningless until Hamas is effectively eliminated," Fetterman declared.

Known as one of the most vocal supporters of Israel among Senate Democrats, Fetterman has a history of publicly rebuking pro-Palestine protesters. He criticized those drawing an "equivalence" between Israel and Hamas, stating, "Hamas now disavows and rejects a two-state solution as well, too, and now they are committed to the destruction of Israel." He added, "I would never want to negotiate with a group that [is] committed to my death as well."

Fetterman concluded his remarks by urging, "Bring all of these people back home now…and stop pretending this is some kind of equivalence here."

The press conference coincided with the Senate's anticipated vote on a security aid package that would provide funding to Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan. However, a similar measure, which includes conservative border policy changes negotiated over several months, is expected to face defeat in the Senate due to strong GOP opposition.
