The Senate's proposed "bipartisan" and "border security" bill, which was unveiled on Sunday, has been met with significant criticism.

Despite assurances from Republican Senator James Lankford of Oklahoma, one of the bill's architects, the legislation appears to be as problematic as its Republican detractors had anticipated. One contentious provision stipulates that the "border emergency authority" is only triggered when 5,000 illegal immigrants cross into the country daily. This equates to an annual total of 1.8 million illegal immigrants before the so-called "automatic deportation" clause is activated.

Following the bill's release, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, a Democrat from New York, expressed his satisfaction with the work done by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Republican from Kentucky. Schumer commended McConnell for his role in persuading Senate Republicans to back the controversial bill. According to Andrew Desiderio of Punchbowl News, Schumer stated, "I have never worked more closely with Leader McConnell on any piece of legislation as we did on this."

As reported on January 24, McConnell allegedly pressured Republican senators to pledge their support for the "secret" border bill before it was made public for open debate. According to multiple sources, McConnell kept the largely complete bill "secret" until he could secure the support of at least 20 of the 49 Republican senators, even if minor changes were necessary to achieve this.

However, this did not occur. As reported on January 25, McConnell reportedly informed a group of GOP senators behind closed doors on January 24 that "the politics have changed." This comment was in reference to former President Donald Trump's decisive victories in the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary, and Trump's intention to campaign on the escalating border issue.

In response to the proposed legislation, Trump stated, "I do not think we should do a Border Deal, at all, unless we get EVERYTHING needed to shut down the INVASION of Millions & Millions of people, many from parts unknown, into our once great, but soon to be great again, Country! Also, I have no doubt that our wonderful Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, will only make a deal that is PERFECT ON THE BORDER. Remember, without Strong Borders and Honest Elections, we don’t have a Country!!!"

The bill was drafted behind closed doors by a select group of establishment advocates and their business donors, including Schumer and McConnell. They appointed three senators to negotiate a plan with the White House: Senator Chris Murphy, a Democrat from Connecticut, Senator James Lankford, a Republican from Oklahoma, and Senator Kyrsten Sinema, an Independent from Arizona.

The White House team was advised by Biden’s pro-migration border chief, Alejandro Mayorkas. Mayorkas, a skilled lawyer, has created numerous loopholes in the nation’s border laws while arguing that the influx of migrants will be easier to manage if they are allowed in through legal pathways.

The involvement of Alejandro Mayorkas, Biden's Homeland Security head, in the creation of any "border security" bill should be a cause for concern for every patriotic American. House Speaker Mike Johnson declared the bill "even worse than we expected," and stated, "If this bill reaches the House, it will be dead on arrival."
